Applesauce Cake

The Cake

Ingredients

• 2 1/2 cups flour
• 2 cups sugar
• 1/4 tsp baking powder
• 1 1/2 tsp soda
• 1 1/2 tsp salt
• 3/4 tsp cinnamon
• 1/2 tsp cloves
• 1/2 tsp allspice
• 1/2 cup water
• 2 cups applesauce
• 1 large egg
• 1/2 cup or less nuts
• 1 cup raisins

Directions

Bake at 350 °F for 45 to 50 minutes in a greased 9x13 pan.

The Frosting

If you like it less sweet, halve this frosting.

Ingredients

• 1/2 cup butter
• 1 cup brown sugar (packed)
• 1/4 cup milk or soymilk
• 1 3/4 to 2 cups sifted powdered sugar

Directions

1. Cook brown sugar and butter for 2 minutes.
2. Stir in milk.
3. Bring to boil stirring constantly.
4. Cool to luke warm.
5. Gradually add powdered sugar and mix with electric beater.
6. Stir and cool until thick enough to spread. Place pan in ice water if needed.
